Das Jahr 2010 hielt für André Rieu und sein Johann Strauss Orchester eine ganz besondere Premiere bereit. Zum ersten Mal waren sie in Südafrika zu Gast. Ihre Tournee führte sie nach Sun City, Durban und Kapstadt. Sie wurden von einem begeisterten Publikum herzlich empfangen. Speziell für die Tour wurden ein paar „afrikanische Spezialitäten” ins Repertore aufgenommen. So standen unter anderem das Lullaby „Thula, Thula, Sarie Marais und „The African Dream” auf dem Programm. Il brano è un medley live di 4 canzoni utilizzate per il finale del concerto contenuto nel disco “Live In The City Of Light” del 1987. Il live è stato registrato allo “Zénith” di Parigi il 12-13 agosto 1986 durante il tour europeo di “Once Upon A Time”. Il medley, come del resto tutto il disco, presenta delle sovrincisioni di studio (peraltro indicate nelle note di copertina); avendo però visto il gruppo in concerto all’epoca il sound non è stato modificato più di tanto. “Love Song” è un brano contenuto in “Sons And Fascination” del 1981; pubblicato come singolo, è stata la canzone che ha fatto conoscere il gruppo al di fuori della schiera dei fans. “Sun City” è un brano scritto da Little Steven (che aveva appena lasciato la “E Street Band” di Bruce Springsteen) per il suo progetto “Artists United Against Apartheid” del 1985, nato sulla scia di “Band Aid” e “USA For Africa”, in opposizione all’allora regime razzista del Sudafrica. Sun City è una sorta di piccola Las Vegas del Sudafrica, tuttora esistente. “Dance To The Music” è la title-track del disco di Sly & The Family Stone del 1968 ed è utilizzata (così come faceva Sly in concerto) dalla corista Robin Clark e dal batterista Mel Gaynor per presentare i musicisti (nell’ordine Gaynor, Charlie Burchill, John Giblin, Michael MacNeil e Sue Hadjopoulos). Infine “New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)”, la title-track del disco del 1982 che ha dato il successo al gruppo scozzese: il vinile l’ho consumato, è stato amore a prima vista …
