No sun gets to my patio. What are the best native California plants to plant in containers?

I have a lovely, large patio…except that it gets absolutely no sun. I would very much like to grow some native plants as a container garden – maybe even some herbs and vegetables. But I don’t even know where to begin to find out what plants will work in complete, total shade.

Here is a plant list from the Mostly Natives website for shade plants: http://www.mostlynatives.com/shade.htm

Here is a plant selector from Las Pilitas Nursery: http://www.mynativeplants.com/site

If your patio doesn’t get direct sun, but has bright light, you may be able to plant part shade stuff… You really have to see how much sun you get. Best of luck to you.
